Graphcore is a Bristol-based AI semiconductor company building Intelligence Processing Units for machine learning workloads, now part of SoftBank. They're hiring a Signal Integrity Engineer in London (hybrid). This electrical engineering role sits within the UK's AI semiconductor sector.
About the job
Own signal integrity for the interconnects that make advanced AI compute systems reliable at scale.
As a Signal Integrity Engineer, you will shape the high-speed PCB and interconnect structures behind Graphcore’s next AI compute platforms. You will take technical ownership across board, package and system-level design.
Your work will help advanced digital interfaces perform within demanding system budgets. That means stronger hardware, cleaner bring-up and greater confidence in first-time-right delivery.
You will develop, extract, simulate and validate structures for SerDes, DDR and other high-speed interfaces. You will turn complex requirements into practical design rules, then prove them through simulation and lab correlation.
This is a role for someone who enjoys difficult physical design problems. You will influence decisions early, move between models and measurements, and raise the standard for future hardware.
The team and culture
Hardware Engineering works across the full hardware lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to bring-up, validation and production support. Engineers work directly with silicon, package, PCB, firmware, software, systems and supplier teams.
Ownership sits close to the engineering problem. You will guide layout decisions, challenge assumptions and use evidence to move designs forward quickly.
Decisions are made through clear technical reasoning, open discussion and measured results. The team values people who speak up, take responsibility and turn ambiguity into progress.

Graphcore is a Bristol-based AI semiconductor company founded in 2016 by serial semiconductor entrepreneurs Nigel Toon and Simon Knowles. Toon previously led XMOS and Picochip, while Knowles co-founded Element14 (acquired by Broadcom) and Icera (acquired by NVIDIA for $435M). The company developed Intelligence Processing Units (IPUs), novel AI accelerators designed from the ground up for machine learning workloads, alongside the proprietary Poplar graph programming framework. Graphcore raised $767M in total funding, reaching a $2.77B valuation, with backing from Sequoia Capital, Atomico, Amadeus, Microsoft, and others. In July 2024, SoftBank Group acquired Graphcore for approximately $500M to $600M. The company continues to operate from Bristol with plans to expand its UK headcount to 750.
