Aircraft Design Engineer

Greenjets·Milton Keynes·Hybrid·Posted 234 days ago

Greenjets builds propulsion for uncrewed and electric aircraft, from electric ducted fans to geared turbofans, and supplies NATO and the UK MoD. They're hiring an Aircraft Design Engineer to define early-stage aircraft configurations and aerodynamic performance using CFD and trade studies, based in Milton Keynes on a hybrid basis. This hardware engineering role sits within the UK's aerospace and defence sector.

About Us:

Greenjets is an innovative engineering company developing high-performance propulsion systems for the aviation market. Our work spans research and development, engine production, aircraft systems, technical integration and flight testing. We are committed to delivering high-grade engineering and best-in-class propulsion for unmanned aircraft.

We do things differently. We move fast, we experiment and we adopt technologies that push beyond the current state of the art. Our aim is to go further, faster and more efficiently, while keeping costs competitive.

All our propulsion systems are designed, developed and manufactured in the UK. We focus on high quality, reliable and cost effective products supported by a robust, secure and ethical supply chain.

About the Job:

As an Aircraft Design Engineer at Greenjets, you will focus on early-stage aircraft concept design, defining the overall configuration, aerodynamic performance and layout of future aircraft.

This role sits at the start of the development flow. You’ll generate airframe concepts, evaluate trade-offs and use CFD and analysis tools to guide design decisions before handing concepts over to the detailed design team.

You’ll work closely with propulsion engineers to ensure tight integration between airframe and engine performance.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop aircraft concepts from initial requirements and mission profiles

  • Define airframe layouts, configurations and aerodynamic surfaces

  • Perform aerodynamic analysis using CFD and analytical methods

  • Assess performance trade-offs including weight, drag, stability and efficiency

  • Support early structural and systems integration considerations

  • Collaborate with mechanical design and development teams to ensure concepts are feasible

  • Refine designs based on test data and iteration feedback

Desirable Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering or related discipline

  • Strong understanding of aerodynamics and aircraft performance

  • Experience with CFD tools and aerodynamic analysis methods

  • Ability to work at the concept and systems level

  • Comfortable making engineering trade-offs with incomplete data

  • Interest in experimental, unmanned or non-traditional aircraft

  • Clear communicator able to translate concepts into actionable designs

About Greenjets

Greenjets was founded in 2022 by chief executive Anmol Manohar and chief technology officer Dr Guido Monterzino, and builds propulsion for uncrewed and electric aircraft, with a portfolio running from electric ducted fans to geared turbofan engines. Products include the Sycamore 160 and Aspen 212, designed for higher efficiency, greater speed and a lower acoustic signature than conventional designs, and the team draws on Rolls-Royce, General Electric, BAE Systems and Formula 1 experience. The company sells to NATO, the UK MoD and the German MoD, and was selected under the MoD's Low-Cost Air Defence Effectors programme to build a British low-cost drone interceptor. It grew from 160 to more than 250 staff and expanded UK facilities from 12,000 to nearly 70,000 square feet. The $40M Series A was led by Blossom Capital, with the NATO Innovation Fund, the National Security Strategic Investment Fund, Tanglin Ventures and NSFO Family Office.
