The role

As Engineering Manager for Map & Route, you’ll lead the team responsible for how mapping context, routing decisions, and operational constraints translate into reliable, production-grade vehicle behaviour. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of vehicle software, cloud services, data pipelines, and real-world operations. You’ll set clear ownership and interfaces across teams and geographies, and raise the bar on reliability, delivery, and technical excellence in a mission-critical part of the autonomy stack.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the Map & Route team, setting direction, execution cadence, and delivery standards.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle for mapping and routing capabilities: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration.
  • Define and drive clear system boundaries, interfaces, and data contracts across teams to reduce duplication and improve integration.
  • Partner with stakeholders across vehicle software, autonomy, product, safety, and operations to align priorities and make crisp trade-offs.
  • Drive operational excellence for production services, including observability, SLIs/SLOs, incident response, and continuous improvement.

About you

In order to set you up for success as an Engineering Manager at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • 2+ years leading and developing an engineering team, delivering outcomes through others across multiple quarters.
  • Strong systems and architecture judgement, with experience designing and evolving production services, APIs, and data flows.
  • Proven ownership of production systems with reliability expectations, including on-call, incident response, monitoring, and operational improvement.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management, with the ability to drive clarity and execution in ambiguity.

Desirable

  • Experience working across vehicle software and cloud services, or similarly complex hybrid software environments.
  • Experience defining clear ownership boundaries and shared interfaces across multiple teams or product lines.
  • Experience working with commercial suppliers or external vendors in a data, platform, or infrastructure context.

This is a full-time role based in our office in London. At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home.

Wayve is committed to creating an inclusive interview experience. If you require any accommodations or adjustments to participate fully in our interview process, please let us know

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed above. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.

About Wayve

Wayve is a London-based autonomous driving company pioneering an AI-first approach to self-driving vehicles. Rather than relying on detailed 3D maps and hand-coded rules, Wayve uses end-to-end deep learning so its AI driver learns directly from camera data and real-world driving experience. The company has partnered with major automakers and logistics firms to bring its technology to production vehicles. Backed by SoftBank, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Uber, Wayve closed a landmark $1.05B Series C in 2024, the largest ever AI funding round by a European company at the time, and has been in discussions for a potential $2B follow-on round.
